Failed Sunpower System

Project Summary

This project involved a failed SunPower system, leaving the homeowner without support after the company went bankrupt. We replaced it with a Franklin Whole Home system and added a few additional panels.

Our Approach

First, we needed to source new panels that matched the existing SunPower panels on the roof—a challenging task—but we found them, keeping the home’s curb appeal as our top priority. Next, we removed the old SunPower system and sent it for recycling, clearing the way for the new and improved Franklin aPower 2 batteries!

Challenges

The biggest challenge was locating the serial numbers on the existing SunPower (Enphase) microinverters, as they were too faint to read from the roof. Once we retrieved the serials, we programmed both the old and new equipment, and the system went live almost immediately—producing over 5 kW!
